Bishop: Beat Food Shortages with Local Foodstuffs

Kupang Post, 6/7/10

Kupang: Speaking to the media on 4/7, the Bishop of Atambua (capital of Belu Kabupaten, bordering East Timor), Msgr D Saku, urged people in his area to respond to the threat of food shortages in 2010 by eating locally produced foodstuffs as substitutes for rice and corn.  He referred specifically to a range of locally growing edible tubers, nuts and other natural consumables known to local people, which research had shown contained nourishing levels of carbohydrates and protein.
